Arsenal have announced a new kit sponsorship deal with Adidas, which will take effect from next season.
The agreement, which is worth around £300 million over five years, becomes active from July 1, 2019.
It is claimed the new deal will bring in double that which they have earned from Puma since 2014, although it is still less than the reported £75m per year Manchester United earn from Adidas.
Arsenal's last kit deal with the German sportswear giants was back in the 1993-94 season, two years before Arsene Wenger, the longest-serving manager in the club's history, took charge.
Arsenal have spent the last five years working with Puma.
That relatively short agreement came on the back of two decades of Nike sponsorship.
The club’s decision to get back into a partnership with Adidas has been well received by supporters and former players, and Goal revealed in August that talks were already underway regarding new designs.
Ian Wright, who enjoyed many goal-laden years at Arsenal with three stripes on his shirt, welcomed the news back in the summer. He posted on social media: "So pleased Adidas are back sponsoring after this coming season. Especially after seeing what Puma have come up with."

Across Florida’s panhandle and into southeast and central Georgia, residents are urged to keep an eye on strengthening Tropical Storm Michael.
Early Monday, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center advised Michael is expected to track northward through the Gulf of Mexico early this week.
The warm waters could intensify the storm to near major hurricane status before landfall late Wednesday somewhere near Florida’s big bend although the cone of uncertainty covers the panhandle.
The cone shows where the center of the storm is expected to track, but effects could be felt outside that zone.
While coastal areas and extreme southeast Georgia are expected to bear the brunt of the storm, Michael is expected to pack a punch as far inland as Middle Georgia which is expected to feel tropical storm force winds over 39 mph.
Projections show up to a 60 percent chance of tropical storm force winds from Columbus to Macon to Augusta.
Last September, parts of Macon sustained heavy wind damage when weakening Tropical Storm Irma tore through Georgia.
As of the 5 a.m. Monday advisory, up to 10 inches of rain is expected near where the storm makes landfall and into southeast Georgia.
Computer forecast models show the storm tracking toward Macon before turning to the northeast and heading into the Carolinas while maintaining tropical storm status.
People living south and east of Macon could see up to 6 inches of rain while 2-4 inches is expected as far west as Columbus.
The forecast is subject to change and everyone is urged to monitor storm updates.

(CNN)Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for 26 counties as Tropical Storm Michael lashed Cuba and is forecast to become a hurricane later Monday as it churns toward the United States.
Michael pounded western Cuba with heavy rain and strong winds and is forecast to make landfall as a hurricane midweek on the northeastern US Gulf Coast. That's the region that stretches from Mobile, Alabama, through the Florida Panhandle and into the Big Bend area of northern Florida.
"Michael expected to become a hurricane very soon," the National Hurricane Center announced in its 8 a.m. bulletin. "Michael is forecast to be near or at major hurricane strength when it reaches the northeastern Gulf of Mexico Tuesday night and Wednesday."
Track the storm
Michael, which formed near the Yucatan Peninsula on Sunday, is expected to dump 4 to 8 inches of rain -- and as much as 12 inches in some areas -- on western Cuba before it hits the United States.
"Michael is expected to produce heavy rainfall and flash flooding over portions of western Cuba and the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico during the next couple of days," the center said.
A hurricane warning is in effect for the Cuban province of Pinar del Rio and tropical storm warnings are posted for the Isle of Youth in Cuba and the coast of Mexico from Tulum to Cabo Catoche, including Cozumel.
A hurricane watch has been declared for the Alabama-Florida border to the Suwannee River in Florida. Tropical storm and storm surge watches have been issued from the Mississippi-Alabama border to Tampa Bay.

'Everybody's got to get ready'

Scott warned that Michael could reach land as a Category 2 hurricane, with winds in excess of 100 mph.
"This storm will be life-threatening and extremely dangerous," Scott said at a press briefing.
"This storm has the potential to bring devastating impacts to communities across the Panhandle and Big Bend and every family must be prepared."
Scott activated 500 National Guard troops in advance of the storm.
"Everybody's got to get ready. Don't take a chance," he said. "We're going to get storm surge, we have wind, we have a chance of flooding, we have a significant chance of tornadoes."
The governor declared a state of emergency for Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Gulf, Gadsden, Liberty, Franklin, Leon, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, Hamilton, Suwannee, Lafayette, Dixie, Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy and Citrus counties.

Hurricane warning in effect in Cuba

As of 8 a.m. ET Monday, Tropical Storm Michael was centered about 70 miles east-northeast of Cozumel, Mexico, and 70 miles south of the western tip of Cuba, the hurricane center saidThe storm's tropical storm-force winds extended 175 miles from its center.
Michael's maximum sustained winds had reached 70 mph, it said. A Category 1 hurricane hassustained winds of 74 to 95 mph.

Candidates adjust campaign schedules

Michael's trek to Florida is affecting politics in the state.
Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum canceled campaign events in South Florida on Monday and Tuesday to prepare for the storm, his campaign said. The forecast projects Tallahassee, where Gillum is mayor, will be directly hit.
Meanwhile, Scott, the Republican nominee for US Senate, will be leaving the campaign trail for the "next few days" to address storm preparations, a campaign spokesperson told CNN.

Tropical Storm Michael could hit Florida Gulf Coast as Category 2 hurricane

by
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A tropical storm that formed rapidly off Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula has gained strength and could become a dangerous Category 2 hurricane with an expected midweek strike on the Gulf Coast over the Florida Panhandle, forecasters say.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for 26 counties to rush preparations in the Florida Panhandle and the Big Bend area, freeing up resources and activating 500 members of the Florida National Guard.
"This storm will be life-threatening and extremely dangerous," Scott said Sunday after receiving a briefing at the State Emergency Operations Center. He warned that a storm surge could affect areas of Florida not in the storm's direct path.
Michael emerged Sunday as a tropical storm with winds of up to 50 mph. But within hours, it gained more punch and its top sustained winds clocked in at 60 mph by late Sunday evening.
The storm is expected to gain hurricane status by Monday night or Tuesday as its center moves over the Yucatan Channel and then crosses the Gulf of Mexico, nearing the Florida Panhandle coast by Wednesday.

The storm was located by 2 a.m.  EDT Monday about 105 miles east-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico and was moving north at about 4 mph. Tropical storm winds extended out 170 miles, primarily to the northeast and southeast of the storm's center.
Forecasters advised residents along the northeastern and central U.S. Gulf Coast to monitor the storm's progress.
Florida's capital, Tallahassee opened two locations Sunday where residents could get sandbags to get ready for possible flooding.
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who's the Democratic nominee for governor, was planning to campaign in South Florida Monday and Tuesday, but said he would return to Tallahassee to help with storm preparations.
CBS Tallahassee affiliate WCTV says, "The Big Bend and South Georgia should prepare for tropical storm force winds by Wednesday. Winds in excess of 40 mph would be enough to knock over trees, power lines, and cause power outages. Heavy rain and flash flooding is also possible. The possibility of hurricane-force winds will be highest along the immediate coast and closest to Michael's center around landfall."
The city of Pensacola tweeted to residents, "Be sure you have your emergency plan in place."
A tropical storm warning was in effect for the Cuban provinces of Pinar del Rio and the Isle of Youth as well as the coast of Mexico from Tulum to Cabo Catoche. A warning indicates tropical storm conditions are expected, in this case, within 24 hours.
The hurricane center warned that the storm could produce a foot of rain in western Cuba, potentially triggering flash floods and mudslides in mountainous areas.
Michael is the 13th named storm of the 2018 hurricane season, according to hurricane center spokesperson Dennis Feltgen.

Tropical Storm Michael will soon become Hurricane Michael as it moves north toward Florida, the National Hurricane Center said Monday morning.
As of 5 a.m. ET, Tropical Storm Michael is about 90 miles east of Cozumel, an island off Mexico’s east coast, and 100 miles west of Cuba. It is moving north at a speed of around 7 m.p.h. It’s expected to speed up slightly through Tuesday night as it passes between Mexico and Cuba, before tacking northeast on Wednesday and Thursday.
The following NOAA graphic shows the likely path of Hurricane Michael’s center (it does not show the estimated size of the storm):
A hurricane watch is in effect along the Alabama-Florida border down to the Suwanee River. Hurricane conditions are expected within the next 12 hours, according to the NHC. Parts of the Florida panhandle near Pensacola down to Anna Maria Island, including Tampa Bay, are under storm surge watch.
What’s expected to become Hurricane Michael is forecast to dump between 4 and 8 inches of rainfall on parts of the Panhandle and the Big Bend with isolated downpours of up to 12 inches, potentially causing life-threatening flash floods.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has issued a state of emergency for 26 counties. “This storm will be life-threatening and extremely dangerous,” he told reporters on Sunday after receiving a briefing at the State Emergency Operations Center.

‘Presidential Alert’: 3 reasons to be concerned

by

At 2:18 EST Wednesday most of us received a message on our cell phones, which was designed to test the new Integrated Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS).
IPAWS is basically an instantaneous way to inform nearly the entire citizenry about a major national emergency. Although the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) developed the alert system, some people find the new program problematic, if not seriously concerning.
It’s not that national alerts are a bad thing — quite the contrary.
For decades, the federal government had a process for broadcasting a national emergency alert via television and radio networks. The concept being that if there were an impending nuclear attack or major nationwide terror attacks, the broadcast system would let folks know — presumably with some recommendations about what we were supposed to do.
The IPAWS has moved the alerts from a pop-up on your TV with the old “we interrupt your regularly scheduled program” message to a more 21st-century communication that is transmitted directly to your cell phone. Some cell phone users, however, didn’t receive the test Wednesday.
Aside from the test’s logistical glitch, there are three things about the test that have provoked a minor social media flurry.
1. Some people are objecting to their personal space being invaded (so to speak) by a message they found upsetting and intrusive. In the age of ubiquitous smart phones and extraordinary intrusions, overt and clandestine, into every aspect of our personal space and privacy, that objection is understandable.
2. Another concern is a “what if” scenario. What if a false alarm of a non-existent national emergency was transmitted to every cell phone in the country?
Recall the situation last year in Hawaii when emergency response officials broadcast a message informing citizens that North Korea had launched a nuclear-tipped missile expected to hit Honolulu in 20 minutes. People reacted with something between complacency and panic.
False alarms — in this case, a technological glitch — could be dangerous.
3. Finally, the new IPAWS system has been referred to a “Presidential Alert” system. I suspect that many Americans would not be thrilled to have an uninvited personal message from the current occupant of the White House.
More to the point, for some of us, the idea that President Trump would have a national microphone like this would be unsettling, to say the least.
Yes, the message would be written by FEMA officials — but who could be confident that the man would stick to script?
If Trump thought, for instance, that his presidency was under serious siege, say, facing significant risk of criminal indictment or impeachment, could he use the IPAWS for entirely nefarious purposes? Who knows?
Still, all this said, having a national emergency alert system is a good idea — and an important aspect of emergency preparedness.
No matter who is president, there needs to be built-in safeguards, so technical mistakes can be avoided and we can eliminate the possibility of any president going rogue with the IPAWS megaphone.
Perhaps sign-off on the message content by the Secretary of Defense or Speaker of the House needs to be built in. Maybe there should be a five-second delay and cut-off mechanism to stop the broadcast if necessary.
FEMA has communicated to the media this system is not actually activated by the president, but rather by someone at FEMA with significant involvement of other agencies and advisors. Further, it is designed to update pre-scripted message templates rather than completely new messages.
But these safeguards are bureaucratic processes, not laws. It is not clear how easily they can be changed by a sitting president.
Dangers lurk, disasters happen. Presidents can become unhinged. We need to be prepared for situations that no one could have imagined.
Appropriate oversight must be established to assure Americans that IPAWS has built-in safeguards to preclude the possibility of technical mishaps, inaccurate messages or out of control messengers, even if they happen to be president of the United States.

Didn't get the Presidential Alert? This is why, according to FEMA

by

While many cellphones were buzzing with test alerts from the president of the United States, others sat in silence.
Several people used Twitter and other social media to note they failed to receive the test presidential alert sent by FEMA on Wednesday at 2:18 p.m. ET.
"I did not get an Alert System text today," wrote one Twitter user.
The warning system was originally put in place under former President George W. Bush for radio and TV and then later updated during the tenure of former President Barack Obama to include cellphones. It wasn't until Wednesday that it got its first test.
Alerts go out in the event of a national emergency, and unlike local weather or Amber alerts, users don't have the option to disable them.
In a statement, FEMA said cellphones compatible with the Wireless Emergency Alerts system that are turned on and within range of an active cell tower were capable of getting the message.
"Additionally, if a user is on a call, or with an active data session open on their phone, they might not have received the message," FEMA said.
FEMA is encouraging the public to send comments on the test to FEMA-National-Test@fema.dhs.gov. Among the details people who did not get the alert should send: What device they use, their wireless provider, whether they were using their phone when the alert went out, and whether others nearby received the alert.

IND vs WI, 1st Test: Idol Sachin Tendulkar posts special message for Prithvi Shaw after Test ton on debut

by

New Delhi: There was a whole buzz around the debut of Prithvi Shaw a night before the series opener against West Indies at Rajkot. He has notched up records at school cricket, then at domestic, led the young Indian team to U-19 glory and finally on a bright Thursday afternoon at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, he broke into international fame with an astounding ton in his debut match. Records tumbled as he marched his way with an authoritative 134 runs and social media was filled with congratulatory posts for the youngster. And among them, he was wished by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
"Lovely to see such an attacking knock in your first innings, @prithvishaw! Continue batting fearlessly. #INDvWI," tweeted Sachin, to whom Prithvi is often compared to for his techniques and composure.
Tested as an Indian opener ahead of the anticipated Australia Test series, Prithvi lived up to the much-awaited opportunity with a glorious century on debut. After KL Rahul's dismissal for a duck, Shaw and Pujara added 99 runs to take India to 133 for one at lunch. The dominance over the hapless Windies attack in the absence of the experienced Jason Holder and Kemar Roach as the duo stitched a remarkable 206 runs. Shortly after lunch, he was dismissed by Devendra Bishoo as he walked back disappointed despite scoring a scintillating 134 runs off 154 balls by lacing 19 fours. His classic show in Rajkot helped India finish the first day at 364 for four. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 72 as the first day's play came to a close.
"Feeling really good now, after the hundred. I was a bit nervous to start off but when I got in, I got comfortable. I just tried to play my natural game. I was just thinking that it's another game for me and then it just happened," said Prithvi at the end of days play.

India vs WI 1st Test: Prithvi Shaw hits sparkling hundred on debut

by

RAJKOT: Teenage batting prospect Prithvi Shaw struck a breezy century on debut to put hosts India on course for a big first innings total in the opening test against West Indies at Rajkot on Thursday.

After captain Virat Kohli had won the toss and opted to bat, India made the most of a docile pitch and a toothless West Indies attack to reach 232 for three at tea.

Shaw, 18, was out for 134 off 154 balls and added 206 for the second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara, who made 86, before both batsmen fell in the second session.

At the interval Kohli was unbeaten on four with his deputy Ajinkya Rahane yet to open his account.

With India opting for three frontline spinners, West Indies' stand-in captain Kraigg Brathwaite will be aware that his side face a stiff task of having to bat last on a pitch already offering some turn for the slow bowlers .

West Indies, already without Kemar Roach after the pace spearhead returned home due to a family bereavement, suffered a further setback when captain Jason Holder was ruled out with an ankle injury.

Shannon Gabriel provided some early cheer for the tourists, however, when he sent back Lokesh Rahul leg before without scoring in the first over of the day, but that proved to be the sole success for the Caribbean side in the first session.

The depleted West Indies attack did not have enough teeth to trouble Shaw and Pujara as they plundered runs at will after Rahul's departure.

Shaw scored his first runs with a punch off the back foot through covers off his second delivery, making it evident why he has already been tipped for a bright future in national colours.

Often a tad flashy with his shot selection, Shaw was fluent on both sides of the wicket and hit 19 boundaries in his maiden test knock.

He drove paceman Keemo Paul on the up through covers to reach triple figures off 99 balls, becoming the fourth youngest to score a hundred on debut.

Shaw's innings came to a tame end when he offered a simple return catch to leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo in the last over before the tea break.

Pujara, playing on his home ground, was typically solid at the other end, waiting patiently for loose deliveries to pick up boundaries. He edged behind to become debutant fast bowler Sherman Lewis's maiden test wicket.

The second test of the two-match series is in Hyderabad from Oct. 12-16.

India vs West Indies 1st Test Day 1: India scored 364 runs on the first day of the first Test against West Indies at the cost of four wickets.

India vs West Indies 1st Test Day 1 Highlights: Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant took India to 364/4 at stumps on Day 1 of first Test against West Indies. Kohli is once again on course to a big score having piled on a fifty already. The day, however, belonged to 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw who scored 134 runs on his debut and gave West Indies little respite. He played confidently, positively and scored freely to put together 206 runs alongside Cheteshwar Pujara. India lost Ajinkya Rahane in the final session but the day belonged to India with utter ease. India had won the toss and opted to bat.

Ronaldo left off Portugal squad for upcoming matches

by

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo was left off Portugal's national team squad for a pair of upcoming matches, the decision coming Thursday as the soccer great fights a rape allegation in the United States.
Ronaldo has been accused of rape by Kathryn Mayorga, who says the player assaulted her in Las Vegas in 2009. He has denied the accusation.
Ronaldo was left off the squad for Portugal's second game in the UEFA Nations League at Poland on Oct. 11 and a friendly match in Glasgow against Scotland three days later.
Portugal coach Fernando Santos said Ronaldo also will not be called up for the next round of international games in November.
Santos said the decision was taken after a three-way conversation between him, Ronaldo and the head of the Portuguese soccer federation.
"We agreed the player wouldn't be available, wouldn't be an option for selection," Santos said. "For the next two squad selections, this one and the one next month, Ronaldo won't be with us."
Santos refused to give details of the conversation, nor would he comment on Ronaldo's state of mind, saying the information was private and personal.
Santos said he expected Ronaldo to play again for Portugal eventually.
Ronaldo also missed Portugal's first two post-World Cup matches last month, with Santos saying then that Ronaldo had only just moved to Italian club Juventus and was still settling down there.
Santos used the 33-year-old team captain's absence last month to try out younger players.
Ronaldo, who is nearing the end of his playing career, is a national hero in Portugal and the country's best-known celebrity.
He is the country's most experienced player with 154 national team appearances, and its all-time highest scorer with 85 goals.
Earlier Thursday, Ronaldo arrived at a Juventus practice session driving in a dark gray Mercedes with tinted windows. The practice was closed to the media.

'She Wants Justice, Of Course' - Kathryn Mayorga's Lawyer on Cristiano Ronaldo Sexual Assault Lawsuit

by
Former model Kathryn Mayorga, who has filed a civil lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo alleging that he raped her, has been spoken to more than once by the law enforcement officers and has plans to cooperate further in the investigation according to her lawyer as she wants justice.

Former model Kathryn Mayorga, who has filed a civil lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo alleging that he raped her, has been spoken to more than once by the law enforcement officers and has plans to cooperate further in the investigation according to her lawyer as she wants justice.

The Las Vegas police department has also reopened the investigation into the matter that dates back to 2009.

Mayorga, who is still in ‘active therapy’ after being diagnosed with diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after the incident, was reportedly encouraged by the recent #MeToo movement, according to ESPN.

"Her decision to pursue this matter is important," Leslie Stovall, the attorney, said during a news conference Wednesday. "She is now advocating for herself.
"She wants justice, of course," Stovall said, when asked what Mayorga wants out of this legal action. "She would want to not be the person who has had to live with this for the last eight or nine years."

Ronaldo has twice denied the allegations on social media and last year his lawyers dismissed a story from German outlet Der Spiegel, that first reported on the incident.

Der Spiegel's report was constructed with the help of informed documents that they had obtained from Football Leaks.

The Juventus forward first took to Instagram and in a live session called the allegations “fake news” before releasing a statement on Twitter where he said that people wanted to become ‘famous’ by leveraging his celebrity status.

"I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me," Ronaldo said. "Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.

"Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense. My clear conscious [sic] will thereby allow me to await with tranquility the results of any and all investigations."

The former model, in her lawsuit filed against the footballer, described the incident in graphic detail and the emotional upheaval which was caused by the Ronaldo’s ‘team’ cornering her into a quick settlement.

Suffering from debilitating emotional distress, the lawsuit claims, Mayorga ultimately signed a $375,000 settlement agreement that required she never speak of any interactions she might have had with Ronaldo.

Her current lawyers, who were not involved in that settlement, now say the agreement should be voided.

Mayorga’s lawyer also said there were questions about the police’s nature of investigation in the matter.

"I found no explanation for the metropolitan police department's failure to continue that investigation," he said. "I don't know why, but I'm curious to find out."

Referencing the possibility of a monetary settlement, Stovall said, "In our legal system, you can't give her back what she's lost. I wish we could. I wish we could say, 'What occurred on June 13, 2009, did not occur.'

Cristiano Ronaldo accuser had suicidal thoughts after alleged rape, lawyer says

by

The woman who claims soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo raped her in Las Vegas now says the alleged assault left her with post-traumatic stress. Kathryn Mayorga wants an eight-year-old legal settlement of her charges thrown out because psychological injuries made her incompetent to agree to it. Ronaldo denies any wrongdoing. Amid the accusations Ronaldo has been left off Portugal's national team for two upcoming matches, according to the Associated Press.
Las Vegas police are now reopening their investigation into the assault allegations. Mayorga's attorney says his client was inspired by the #MeToo movement and is speaking out now in hopes of encouraging anyone who's suffered sexual assault in their past to come forward, reports CBS News correspondent Jamie Yuccas.
Mayorga first told the German publication Der Spiegel about the night in 2009 she says Ronaldo raped her. The night still haunts her, according to her lawyer Leslie Stovall.
"She has suffered an emotional, a psychological injury," Stovall said. "Depression, suicidal ideation, abuse of alcohol, problems maintaining personal relationships and employment."
Photos show Mayorga and Ronaldo partying at a Las Vegas hotel that year. In 2010, she reached an agreement with his attorneys to accept $375,000 to keep quiet about their alleged encounter.
"It appears that Kathryn felt she had to sign the settlement agreement to avoid further discussions or negotiations about the sexual assault and that in and of itself was traumatic," Stovall said.
Mayorga is now seeking more than $200,000 in a lawsuit claiming she "lacked the mental capacity to participate in negotiations…due to the injuries suffered."
"If you were to ask Kathryn, 'are you doing this for money?' she'd say no…. What we're asking is that Kathryn be compensated for what she's gone through," Stovall said.
In a statement, Las Vegas police said in 2009 "the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description." Mayorga's lawyer disputed that in a press conference Wednesday, saying she did identify Ronaldo as her attacker.
On Twitter Wednesday, Ronaldo said his conscience was clear writing, "I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me… keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense."
Asked what his response to that is, Stovall said, "I really don't have a response… He will have the opportunity to come into a court of law and prove that he did nothing and I look forward to that."
Mayorga's attorney says Ronaldo has 20 days to respond to the lawsuit. Ronaldo has multiple endorsement deals, including one with Nike reportedly worth a billion dollars. Nike tells CBS News it's deeply concerned by the allegations and it'll continue to closely monitor the situation.
