Watch Post Malone Interview, The National Performance on Fallon

Last night, Post Malone put on his best flowery suit to sit down with Jimmy Fallon and talk about his inaugural Posty Fest in Dallas, about which the “Psycho” singer doesn’t really know the details. Malone also talked about his upcoming New Years show Brooklyn, his tattoo cold war with Justin Bieber, and invited Fallon to the Olive Garden where he likes to celebrate all of his milestones. He also previewed his new song “Sunflower” from the forthcoming animated film, Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. He proved to be quite a charismatic and chill guest, charming both Fallon and the audience.

While Post was not the musical guest for the night, The Tonight Show booked the perfect pairing by getting The National to play. For their part, the band decided to have a little fun and re-enacted their video for “Dark Side of The Gym.” The group performed alongside two ballet dancers: Justin Peck, who also choreographed the video, and Patricia Delgado, who starred in it. They played the background while the recital was the main focal point, which was ann interesting way to bring life to a typically staid late night production. Venom branded a ‘complete FAILURE’ in savage first reactions - but it’s not all bad

VENOM’S reviews aren’t due out until tomorrow but critics have finally been allowed to tweet their reactions - and it’s not good news.

The Tom Hardy movie is in cinemas tomorrow, October 3, with reviews not due to be published until just hours before the first public screening.

That seemed to make some fans suspicious that bosses were fearing negative feedback - and it seems they may have been right.

Critics who have seen the movie have been able to unleash their opinions via Twitter and it’s not looking good.

IGN’s Tom Horrorgensen said: “Sorry to say that #Venom is pretty much a complete failure - a tonal mess that feels 15 years old, ignoring the storytelling strides that the superhero genre has made in recent years.

“A few fun Venom-centric moments aside, it has nearly nothing to offer. Don't get your hopes up.”

Asked about the CGI by a follower, he branded it “awful”.

Mike Ryan of Uproxx said: “I’m *fascinated* with VENOM. The cast seems to all know they’re in a darker superhero movie, except Tom Hardy who is basically remaking Jim Carrey’s Liar Liar.

“I kinda loved watching this movie, in a Rocky Horror type of way. At one point Tom Hardy and Venom make out.”

Perri Nemiroff of Collider commented: “Significant chunks of #Venom don’t work *at all* but there is some serious charm to the Eddie/Venom relationship.

“Not sure I had the intended reactions to some scenes but fun is fun - even when it’s totally ridiculous, right? It’s too bad they didn’t go for the R rating though.”

Scott Mendelson of Forbes posted: “Tom Hardy's performance in #Venom is either Johnny Depp in the first PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN or Chris Klein in STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI. Either way, it's not boring.”

And Brandon Davis said: “Action-sequences and Eddie and Venom's odd relationship are the highlights of #Venom but if Sony wants to move forward with a universe, it needs to just keep the few parts that work and scrap the large portion which doesn’t.”

It’s not all bad though - Beatrice Verhoeven of The Wrap said: “#Venom wasn’t as bad as everyone was saying it was going to be.

“Tom Hardy is and always will be a great actor, and I laughed a lot — but I’m not sure whether that was intentional or not. Post-credit scene is [fire].”

Hardy himself revealed in an interview over the weekend that 40 minutes’ worth of his favourite scenes have been cut.

Cowboys vs. Seahawks odds: Picks and best predictions by expert who's 13-3 on Dallas, Seattle games

The Seattle Seahawks will look avoid three consecutive losses to start the season when they host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Seattle is a one-point favorite in the latest Cowboys vs. Seahawks odds, down from an open of -3. The over-under for total points scored has dipped to 40 after opening at 44.5. Seattle makes its home debut following a pair of one-score losses on the road to Denver and Chicago, while Dallas is looking to build on momentum from last week's primetime win over New York after losing its opener at Carolina. Before making any Cowboys vs. Seahawks picks, you need to hear what SportsLine senior analyst Josh Nagel has to say.

The handicapper has had a particularly sharp sense for the two clubs, posting a record of 13-3 in against the spread picks involving the Cowboys or Seahawks over the past two seasons. This includes an 11-2 mark on Seattle. Nagel improved on this record just last week when he advised SportsLine members to back favored Chicago against Seattle on Monday night. The Bears used a late pick-six to create separation and cover the spread in the 24-17 victory.

Nagel knows the new-look Seahawks have gone from a dominant club that was a heavy favorite to win the NFC West for the majority of this decade to an underdog to win eight games this season in the eyes of Vegas oddsmakers. Their over-under for total wins was 7.5, and they are now an even bigger underdog to finish at .500 after dropping two road games to start the season. Dallas is the first opponent on a brutal home slate that also includes visits from the Rams, Vikings, Chargers and Chiefs. 

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has absorbed even more of the burden to produce on the offensive end and delivered with some explosive plays. He's done so without the services of top target Doug Baldwin, who was injured in the opener against Denver and is out for Sunday. Tyler Lockett has stepped up in Baldwin's absence with eight catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

There's also a revenge factor in this game. The Seahawks knocked the Cowboys out of playoff contention last season with a 21-12 win in Dallas in which they intercepted Dak Prescott twice and held the Cowboys' offense without a touchdown. It remains to be seen whether Seattle will cover as a slight favorite in the rematch.

So far, the Dallas (1-1) defense has been up to the task while splitting games against Carolina and New York. It has allowed just 29 total points, while ranking fourth in the NFL in total defense at 274 yards per game. 

But the offense has struggled to gain traction. Prescott has thrown for a modest 330 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions while completing 65 percent of his attempts. Star running back Ezekiel Elliott has 147 rushing yards and two scores to go along with 26 receiving yards.

Bears' defense erases 14-point deficit, but better balance needed

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Mitchell Trubisky's bumpy performance in Week 3 will not silence the critics convinced the Chicago Bears drafted the wrong quarterback in 2017, but the team did achieve an important milestone in its rebuilding effort on Sunday.

The Bears won a game they were supposed to win.

For a franchise that routinely struggled to handle prosperity under former head coaches Marc Trestman and John Fox, the Bears managed to win back-to-back games for just the second time since 2016.

All alone atop the NFC North for the first time since Week 16 of the 2013 season, the Bears can thank their opportunistic defense (four takeaways) and strong rushing attack for erasing a 14-point deficit to beat the winless Arizona Cardinals 16-14.

The only drama left in Arizona is chronicling the developing of rookie quarterback Josh Rosen, who mercifully replaced Sam Bradford late in the fourth quarter.

The Bears' season, on the other hand, is very much alive, especially after Green Bay and Minnesota suffered unexpected losses on Sunday.

However, Trubisky has to play better for coach Matt Nagy's team to be a serious playoff contender.

"With Mitch ... there are plays when he played really well ... but we can improve," Nagy said. "There are going to be some growing pains as we do this and it's not going to happen overnight."

Trubisky's most impressive throw of the afternoon was a 39-yard, third-quarter completion to Allen Robinson that set up a touchdown, but far too often, the second-year quarterback missed the mark on downfield pass attempts.

Those accuracy issues are becoming acute.

The Bears lauded Trubisky's accuracy when they made him the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft out of North Carolina, but that passing precision has yet to materialize at the NFL level.

"I just gotta keep getting better. ... It was a good win for us on the road," Trubisky said.

"I'm really tough on myself. I know I can play a lot better."

Trubisky also turned the ball over twice in the first half, and nearly threw a pick inside the 20-yard line in the third quarter. This comes on the heels of Trubisky tossing a pair of interceptions versus Seattle six days earlier.

The good news, according to Nagy, is that Trubisky, "has not flinched at all on the sideline after turning the ball over, that's the best part of this process -- he's getting better -- I'm proud of him."

"We can improve but I'm happy with where he's at. ... We're going to continue to work together and continue to keep pushing forward until this thing clicks."

Trubisky isn't going anywhere. The fan base can scream all they want about Chicago drafting Trubisky instead of Patrick Mahomes (13 touchdown passes, zero interceptions), but what's done is done.

But the city is tired -- and rightfully so -- of watching the defense carry the offense.

The Bears need better balance to reach their full potential.

Revisiting the luxury and glamour of Concorde

In March 1969, just months before Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, Concorde made its maiden flight. The supersonic plane embodied a vision of the future as daring as that of Apollo 11 -- but far better looking.

No plane has captured the public imagination quite like Concorde, even though only 20 were ever built, and they were flown by just two airlines. Today, nearly 50 years on, it still stands as one of humanity's most remarkable engineering achievements, and a truly timeless piece of design.

Designed by physics

In the aesthetically homogenous world of passenger planes, Concorde was a breathtaking distraction. It looked different from any other plane, with triangle-shaped wings and a pointed nose like a fighter jet, both of which were advantageous for supersonic travel.

"The design for Concorde was all informed by the physics," said Azerrad. "The end result was actually quite beautiful, but that was not the motivating intent behind the shape of the aircraft. So it's remarkable that, without any additional design flourishes whatsoever, it ended up looking like a beautiful swan."

Concorde flew commercially for 27 years, from 1976 to 2003, and could travel between London and New York in under four hours. A British and French co-production, the aircraft was on the shopping lists of most major airlines -- including Pan Am, Continental, American Airlines, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa and Qantas -- at the time of its first flight.

World's oldest known animal identified after decades-long mystery

London (CNN)The oldest known animal in the geological record has been identified, in a discovery that scientists are calling "the Holy Grail of palaeontology."

Fat molecules discovered on the fossil of a mysterious creature called Dickinsonia have confirmed that that it lived 558 million years ago, making it the earliest known member of the animal kingdom.

The findings place its existence 20 million years before the Cambrian Explosion event, when major animals began appearing on the fossil record.

The fossil was first discovered by Australian scientists on a remote Russian cliff face by the White Sea in 1947 and the study, published Friday, brings to an end a decades-long debate to identify what it was.

"The fossil fat molecules that we've found prove that animals were large and abundant 558 million years ago, millions of years earlier than previously thought," said Jochen Brocks, part of the team from the Australian National University (ANU) that led the research.

The symmetrical, oval-shaped organism grew up to around 1.4 meters in length and had rib-like features across its body.

Its fossil was so well preserved that scientists found cholesterol, which they have called "the hallmark" of animal life.

"Scientists have been fighting for more than 75 years over what Dickinsonia and other bizarre fossils of the Ediacaran Biota were: giant single-celled amoeba, lichen, failed experiments of evolution or the earliest animals on Earth," Brocks said.

"The fossil fat now confirms Dickinsonia as the oldest known animal fossil."

 

Police admit to knowing undercover officer was having sex with activist, campaigners say

London (CNN)UK police have admitted that supervisors knew about a long-term sexual relationship between an undercover officer and an environmental activist, campaigners said Friday.

The activist, Kate Wilson, had a two-year intimate relationship with Mark Kennedy, who was known to her as Mark Stone. She only found out in 2010 that he had been an undercover officer tasked with infiltrating environmental protest groups.

The Investigatory Powers Tribunal is due to hear Wilson's case against the Metropolitan Police and the National Police Chiefs' Council, alleging breaches of the Human Rights Act, on October 3. The tribunal investigates claims that the police have abused covert surveillance powers and infringed people's human rights.

The admission that Kennedy's supervisors knew about their sexual relationship and allowed it to continue was made in legal papers submitted by the police ahead of the October 3 hearing, according to a document released by campaign group Police Spies Out of Lives on Friday.

It appears to contradict a public apology made by police in 2015 which said such relationships by undercover officers were "abusive, deceitful, manipulative and wrong," would "never be authorized in advance" and were the result of "failures of supervision and management."

According to the Police Spies Out of Lives document, police have "admitted to the Tribunal that an as yet unknown number of cover officers and a line manager knew about and acquiesced to the relationship."

It added: "This means at least eight police officers were complicit in deceiving Ms Wilson in a long-term, intimate relationship, and suggests a deliberate strategy, and not a 'failure of supervision' as claimed."

Police have also conceded in the legal papers that Kennedy's relationship with Wilson violated her right to live without torture or inhuman or degrading treatment, and that this breach was made worse by the complicity of his managers, the document said.
